Wearing or putting aside jewellery while on vacation

What to do with my jewellery while on vacation?

We sometimes don't know what to do with our jewellery or even when to wear it, while on vacation. Some of them are part of us so we never take them off! But is it a good idea to wear your jewellery at all times? This obviously depends on your activities and the condition of your jewellery. Here is a list of activities and our recommendations as jewellers and hyperactive girls. You won't find better people to advise you on this.

At the pool

It is best not to wear your sterling silver jewellery when swimming. Chlorine will oxidise your jewellery. Gold jewellery, on the other hand, will not be affected. Always remove your pearls and fragile stones such as turquoise or opals. If you forget to remove your sterling silver jewellery and it oxidises, take a look at our tips on how to clean it properly.

In a garden

If you don't want to take off your jewellery to garden, please wear gloves! All too often we hear stories of diamonds lost in the ground. Sometimes a miracle happens and the stones are found, but do you really want to take that chance?

At the beach

Definitely remove them, even if you feel your rings are tight enough on your fingers, the cold water will make them shrink and the swirl of the waves may cause your rings to slip off without you even noticing. What could be most damaging to your jewellery on a relaxing day at the beach is the sand. In jewellery making, we use this sand to give jewellery a satin finish by rubbing it against the metals. Protect your rings in particular to avoid ending your holiday with a brushed look! However, if this happens to you, don't hesitate to come and see us. We will be happy to restore them to their former glory.

Camping

In this case, opt for earrings, necklaces and bracelets that are less expensive and that do not dangle. Wear earrings that you don't have to take off to sleep. Leave out that overly sentimental necklace your friend brought back from Nepal.

Finally

We hope these tips will help you avoid unpleasant surprises. You should also know that it is essential to have your jewellery checked once a year by a professional jeweller. This little visit, free of charge, could save you from losing a precious stone or a valuable souvenir. Do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any doubts about the strength of a piece of jewellery. We will be happy to examine it free of charge. With this good advice, we wish you a carefree holiday.
