Réparer une bague cassée

How to repair a broken ring?

To make matters worse, your ring is broken, deformed, you have lost a central stone and you are wondering who will take care of it? First of all, collect all the pieces in a small pouch and keep everything in a safe place. Even though they are made of precious metals that are known to be strong, sterling silver and 10, 14 or 18 karat gold rings are not immune to the unexpected. We don't have a thousand tips to give you: Consult a jeweler who has all the tools and know-how necessary to repair a ring, even if you think the job is easy to do. You could do more harm than good to your ring by trying to repair it yourself. Soldering, reshaping and maintaining a ring are among the meticulous tasks of a trained jeweler.

Here are some examples of ring repairs offered by a jeweler.

  • Repairing a Cut Ring

The cost of repairing a cut ring

A ring is caught on your finger and nothing can be done to remove it? Have you tried very cold water, cream and vaseline without success? If there is swelling and severe pain, go directly to the emergency room. If the situation is not that dramatic, we advise you to avoid emergencies and go to a jeweler who will be happy to use a ring cutter to free you from your ring. It is very common to have to cut a ring because a finger has suddenly swollen or someone has risked putting an ill-fitting ring back on. Once the ring is removed, the price to repair a cut ring varies depending on the metal of the ring and the work to be done. In addition to resoldering the ring with the appropriate precious metal, it would be appropriate to resize it to the correct finger size so that you can eventually put it back on. This type of repair and adjustment generally costs between $60 and $120. To learn more about enlarging, shrinking and soldering a silver, white gold , yellow gold or rose gold ring, see this article on upsizing . Please be aware that a gold or silver plated ring that is not made of precious metals cannot be repaired or enlarged.

Repairing a lost diamond ring

Wearing an engagement ring or any other type of jewelry with diamonds carries its share of risk. The claws that hold diamonds and precious stones in place can become damaged if they are not maintained, causing some nasty surprises. Direct impacts on the stones must be avoided at all costs. If the damage has already been done and the diamond is lost or damaged, it is possible to replace a stone but unless you know the setting techniques, it is strongly recommended to deal with a specialist to put a precious stone back in place and make sure it is securely hooked. Bring your ring without a stone and after having completely cleaned it of all impurities, the jeweler will be able to determine the exact size of diamond you need and begin the repair work. The price of a diamond varies depending on its size (carat) and its origin. At Flamme en rose, we opt for natural Canadian diamonds or VS-EF quality laboratory-created diamonds to carry out this type of repair. Prong repair and crimping should not cost more than $200. The price of the new diamond is obviously not taken into account. We always advise our clients to take a photo of their engagement ring and request an insurance certificate as soon as they take possession of it in the event of loss, breakage or theft.

Repair a bent ring at a reasonable price

Gold and silver rings are made of malleable metals and can twist if too much pressure is placed on them. A ring can therefore be easily flattened or deformed. Once again, it takes know-how and good tools to repair a deformed or twisted ring . Usually, the jeweler uses a ring mandrel and a wooden or rubber mass to return the ring to its original shape without damaging the metal. The cost of this type of repair varies depending on the damage but should not cost more than $150. If the jewelry is too damaged, you could use a jewelry transformation or creation service to make a completely new piece of jewelry.

At Flamme en rose, we offer a free evaluation service for any repair. We offer jewelry and ring repair services from our ring repair workshop in Montreal, which is located in the same premises as our jewelry store.
